Whitewater Rafting in Nepal

Rafting in Nepal

White water rafting is negotiating river rapids and obstacles in an inflatable rubber boat with a team of up to eight people and a river guide. Rivers are graded from easy to near-impossible according to their size, the intensity of their rapids and the difficulties that may affect rescue attempts.Nepal is home to eight out of the fourteen highest peaks in the world with colorful and intricate Hindu religion to the austerity of the Buddhist monasteries. From these breathtaking heights, rivers crash down through the foothills, fed by monsoon rains and melting snow, on their way to the Great Plains of the Ganges. Nepal has many rivers for you to explore: Trishuli River (1 up to 3 days), Seti River (2 days), Bhote Koshi River (2 days), Kali Gandaki River (3 days), Marsyandi River (rafting/kayaking 4 days), Sun Koshi River (7 to 9 days), Arun River (rafting adventure 9 days), Karnali River (whitewater rafting 10 days), Tamur River (rafting adventure 11 days). On these rivers you will find the world’s most thrilling whitewater with a wide range of difficulties, warm water and bug free beaches for camping. All this makes a wealth of unlimited opportunities for great river rafting, kayaking, climbing, mountaineering, biking, hiking and ever popular trekking adventures in Nepal. We are proud to share our wonderful country, culture and our many years of experience in this field with you and give you an excellent opportunity to explore the remote countryside which is never possible without river trips.

Nepal rafting trips

Nepal is a river runner’s paradise no other country has such a choice of multi-day trips away from roads, in such magnificent mountain surroundings, with warm rivers, a semi-tropical climate, impressive geography, exotic cultures, wildlife and friendly welcoming people. But it’s not just the rivers –as anyone who has been there will tell you, Nepal has a magnificent holiday in its own rite – a fairy tale land of temples, mountain, dramatic festival, exotic culture, colorful people! Medieval villages, superb craft shopping, grate food and sights – the bonus are some of the world’s best rivers like Sunkoshi and Karnali.

Nepal’s river system

The major river system namely the Koshi, the Karnali and the Gandaki belong to the antecedent group. Rivers originating from the Mahabharat range and cutting through Churia hills come under the second group, these include Kankai, Bagamati, Kamala etc. the third group of riverd orginate from the southern face of the Churia hills. For the purpose of commercial rafting, Nepalese rivers can be grouped into three categories on the basis of their origin.
1. Antecedent to Himalaya
2. After the Mahabharat
3. After the Churie range
Antecedent rivers belong to the period prior to the rise of the Himalaya, these rivers added their tributaries during or after the Himalayan origin alongwith the development of mosoon climate. After the formation of Mahabharat hills, the antecedent rivers changed their courses as Mahabharat stood as a barrier. As a result, most of the these rivers were responsible to deposit the sediments in the Churis basin.
