Damodar kund trekking itinerary details

Day 1Arrival day Kathmandu

Receive you in Kathmandu international airport. Then transfer to hotel by private car. If you have time, just couple of hrs time sightseeing around downtown Thamel.

Day 2 Kathmandu Cultural and Heritages Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast, We start a guided tour to UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square area holds the palaces of the medieval Kings who ruled over the then Kathmandu Kingdom. Pashupatinath houses a sacred lingum, or the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. The Aryaghat alongside Pashupati and on the banks of the Bagmati River is a famous cremation site for the Hindus. The Buddhists shrine of Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world, and one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist destinations in Kathmandu. The area of Boudhnath is also famous for over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries. Swayambhu meaning the “the self-existent” is popular among the foreigners as Monkey Temple owing to the large number of monkey population residing in the area. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 3 Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m/2989 ft) 6hrs

Pokhara city is located 206 kilometers west of Kathmandu. As you drive out the Kathmandu valley, only to quickly descend again to the Trishuli River, then follow upstream to its junction with the Marsyangdi River. Marsyandi valley follows gently up through heavily terraced rice fields and small hill towns to the Seti River that takes you directly into Pokhara lake side. Having pleasant weather, Pokhara is tourist’s Hub where has a full of natural and cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus. You can observe views to the north across the hills and Phewa Tal (Lake) to the white peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. You can also take a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara instead of drive.

Day 4 Fly to Jomsom (2,720m) & Trek to Kagbeni village (2,800m/9156ft), 4 hrs

You will be land on District headquarters of Mustang and will start trek to Kagbeni, the starting point of the Upper Mustang, where you can see a spectacular views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche peak and Dhampus. Kagbeni is the most interesting typical Tibetan village and the entry point of the upper Mustang for overnight stop. Stay overnight in Kagbeni village at guest House.

Day 5 Kagbeni – Chele village (3,100m/10,137 ft) 6 hrs

The trail leads up toward the east bank of the Kaligandaki that climbs over many ridges as it heads north and reaches Tangbe Village. The town is labyrinth of narrow alleys amongst white washed house, fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards. The Nilgiri peaks, which dominates the southern skyline of Kagbeni. Continues to loom massively at the foot of the valley. Beyond Tangbe we reach Chhusang Village and crosses the river, continue climbing north up the trail to a huge red chunk of conglomerate that ahs fallen from the cliff above forming a tunnel through which the Kaligandaki follows. The trek now leaves the Kaligandaki valley and climb steeply up a rocky gully to chele at 3030m.

Day 6 Trek to Gheling village (3,570m/11674 ft), 7 hrs

The climb continues along step, treeless, water less terrain, along the side of the spectacular steep canyon to pass and cairn of rock at 3540m. Then the trail makes a long gradual descent to some chortens on a ridge, and then the trail descends further on a pleasant trail to Samar. The Annapurna, still dominated by Nilgiri, is visible far to the south. Climb above Samar to a ridge, then descend into a large gorge and the trail goes into another valley field, crosses a stream and climbs up to a ridge at 3800m. The route climbs sharply up and down over a series of high passes, before the final descend to Geiling. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 7Trek to Tsarang village (3,560m /11,641 ft), 5 hrs

From Geling, the trail climbs gently to the interesting pass on our trek NYILA and descends below the blue, gray and red cliffs. After crossing a steel bridge of the Tangmar chu (river), we arrive to a MANI (Prayer WALL) perhaps the longest and most spectacular stretch and main wall in Nepal. Climbing over another pass at 3600m the route makes a long gentle descent to Charang. The huge five – story white Dzong and red Gompa is an interesting visit to observe collections of statues and Thankas as well as many large paintings of seated Buddha’s. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 8 Trek to Lo Manthang village (3,840m/ 12,557 ft), 4 hrs

The trail descends about 100 meters down from Charang, crosses the Charang – Chu and climbs steeply up a rocky trail to a cairn on a ridge and continues to climb. Finally, from a ridge at 3850m. There is a view of the walled city of LO. After a short descent, cross a stream then climb up into the plateau of Lo- Manthang. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 9 Lo-Manthang rest for excursion: Visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar.

Another day in Lo -Manthang gives you the chance to explore its many sights; the Tall Champa Lakhang (God house,) the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Raja’s Palace; as well as to gaze at the surrounding panoramic views of the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalaya. Besides Lo-Manthang there is two other interesting valleys worth visiting. The western valley Tingkhar, the sight of Raja’s summer palace, Kimling and Phuwa as well as the Gompa of Namgyal (The Monastery of Victory) is the newest and most active Gompa in Lo. In the eastern valley lies the village of Chosar, also rich in gompas and the valley is the main trading route to Lhasa. After visiting Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar return to Lomanthang for stay overnight.

Day 10 Trek to Yara village (3,900 m/12,753 ft), 7 hours.

We continue our trail for a while and follow the left trail after skipping the trail to reach Tsarang. The trail gently climbs on the ridge viewing the scenic landscapes until reaching small pass. Then, we climb down a steep and dusty descent in the narrow path. We again come to a wide plateau and descend rocky gully and knee crunching trail until reaching Dhi village. We will have lunch here. After lunch we cross by a suspension bridge over the Kaligandaki River and make a short steep climb. Then, we follow along the upstream of Puyung Khola viewing the unbelievable landscapes and innumerable caves at the stone walls until reaching Yara village. Overnight at either local basic guesthouse.

Day 11Trek to Ghuma Thanti (4800 m/ 15,696 fit) via Luri Cave, 7 hours.

Today, we ascend up to reach Luri Cave Monastery and visit that interesting Cave Monastery. After that, we follow the barren valley after crossing 5100 m/ 16,677 fit pass; today we prepare pack lunch due to no appropriate cooking possibilities on the trek. Overnight at Tent/guesthouse.

Day 12 Trek to Damodar Kunda (4890 m /15,990 ft), 6 hours.

In this day, we start after breakfast, the trail continues with ups and downs. After crossing another 5600meter pass we will reach High Altitude Damodar Kunda. We need to make lunch pack due to no appropriate cooking possibilities in the trail. Overnight at Tent

Day 13 Exploring around. Puza Celebration on Damodar Kunda/Lake, Stay overnight at tented camp..Day 14 Trek descend to Ghuma Thanti (4800 m /15,696 ft), 6 hours.

Today, we return back all the same way passing over the 5600m / 18,312 ft high pass. The trail again ups and down same like before. We will make our lunch in some small stream in the trail. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 15 Trek from Ghuma Thanti to Yara village (3900 m /12,753 ft), 6 hours.

We descend back track all the same route which before we climb up. The trail continues downhill until reaching Yara Village. We prepare our lunch on the trail. Overnight at guesthouse in Yara.

Day 16 Trek from from Yara to Tangye village (3240 m /10,595 ft), 8 hours.

Today is also difficult and long day for us. Therefore we start really early in the morning. We first have short and steep ascent and then long flat way trail. Then the trail continues steep down to Dechhyang Khola which origin is from Damodar Kunda. It takes about 30 minutes. We find everywhere Saligrames (the black fossils of marine animals). Then the trail steeply ascents and leads us to the top of the pass where we have our packed lunch break, so we need to make pack lunch in Yara due to no appropriate cooking possibilities in the trail. After lunch, the trail goes up and down and then we are on a huge plateau and cross it for reaching to Tangya village. We can see several big Chhortens. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 17 Trek from Tangbe to Tetang village (3,440 m /11,249 ft), 8 hours.

We leave the village, cross the suspension bridge and follow the short river route. After crossing the river, we steeply climb up to reach a small pass. Then the trail goes straight to Paha (shelter house) where we make our lunch. Here is small water tap for drinking water. After the lunch break we continue crossing many small passes until we reach the top of the hill. It takes about 2 hours. Then the trail steeply descends and we encounter strong winds until we reach Tetang village. We have a superb view of Nilgiri Himal, Dhaulagiri I, Tukuche Peak, and other snow peaks during the trail. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 17 Trek from Tetang to Muktinath village (3,800 m /12,426 ft), 8 hours.

After breakfast we follow our trail through the village after passing the scenic Mani walls. Then, we climb up to the wide valley. After walking the plateau, we keep ascending until reaching small pass from where we can see the high mountains and picturesque view of Muktinath. Then, we drop down to the small stream and cross by a suspension bridge. After that, we enter in the village of Chhyongar and follow the level trail until reaching Muktinath passing Kani/gate. In the evening, we explore to secret place for Hindus and Tibetan Buddhist in about 30 minutes in its compound. We can visit the 108 brass water spouts, Muktinath temple stands enshrining Vishnu, a Hindu god. When we visit to Muktinath Temple at once, we are free/salvation of escape from the cycle of birth and rebirth. Below the temple there is another Buddhist monastery where the combination of earth-water-fire that gives for Muktinath great religious significance. And we can also see the magnificent view of Nilgiri Himal and Dhaulagiri I. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 18 Trek to Jomsom Bazzar (2713m/ 8,872 ft), 6 hours.

The trail goes down hill walking through the nice Jharkot village where one can visit the many attractions such as the Jharkot – Shakyapa monastery, Tibetan herbal medical center and the old fortress of Jharkot which once served as palace. Continuing the trek towards Jomsom one will enjoy the views of the Kaligandaki valley and Kagbeni village. Kagbeni is a gate way to discover Upper mustang or Lo manthang city. We get a round trip of our trek in Ekle Bhatti visiting all the surprises of the human effort in this corner of the World of such an isolation and solitude. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 19 Jomsom to Pokhara by flight. Pokhara city Tours

After morning breakfast we check in the airport to fly back to Pokhara, roughly 30 min dramatic flight to reach Pokhara between gorge of the two huge mountains, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. On arrival at Pokhara airport, guide will transfer to the lakeside hotel. We make use of the rest afternoon for discovering the beautiful Pokhara valley leisurely. While we walk along the bank of Fewa Lake, a second biggest lake of Nepal, we cannot stop admiring the state of Fish Tail Mountain reflecting in the lake. We can also take a boat around the Fewa Lake or just take a taxi to visit Devi’s fall, Gupteswor Mahadev cave and Tibetan refugee camp. Transfer back to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 20 Fly / or drive to Kathmandu or extend your trip on request.

After breakfast start sightseeing at Pokhara city and afternoon drive or fly (Paying an extra charge) back to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel for stay overnight.
