Gosaikunda lake

Gosaikunda lake is known as frozen lake trek is one of the less touristic but most beautiful trekking located in Langtang Himalayas of Nepal. Gosai is one of the names of Lord Shiva and Kund is a Nepali word, means the lake.

There are 108 kund in this area and mainly visible from the routes are Saraswati Kund, Bhairab Kund, Surya Kund, Bardha kunda. But Gosaikund is the most famous and important one. However, if you hike to the viewpoint you will have a brilliant view of Langtang Lirung (7246m/23,694 ft), Gang Chhenpo (6388m/20,889 ft), Naya Kangri (5846m/19,116 ft), Dorje Lakpa (6966m/22,779 ft), Yala peak (5732m/18,744ft), Nayakang peak(5844m/19,110ft) and many other snows capped mountains in a range.

Gosaikunda Lake is believed to have been created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishul (trident) into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his burning throat after swallowing poison. There is a large rock in the center of the lake which is believed to the remains of a Shiva shrine. People often claim that they see Shiva lying in the water.

Gosaikunda lake detail itinerary

Day 1Arrival day Kathmandu

Receive you in Kathmandu international airport. Then transfer to hotel by private car. If you have time, just couple of hrs time sightseeing around downtown Thamel.

Day 2 Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (2,090m / 6,834ft) 7 hour.

Drive Kathmandu to Dhunche Bazzar which will take roughly 7 hrs by bus or can drive by the Landcruiser. Overnight stay at the Hotel in Dhunche from where you will have a majestic mountains view including Ganesh Himal, few peaks of Langtang range and the boarder Himalayas on Tibetan side.

Day 3 Trek to sing Gompa (3250m/10,628ft), 6 hrs

Morning breakfast in Thulo Syabru village the trail slightly goes uphill through beautiful rhododendron, Bamboo and pine trees. Along the trail you will past several mountains village to reach Chandan Bari Sing Gompa and visit cheese factory in the Langtang region of Nepal, where you will overnight today.

Day 4 Trek to Gosaikunda Lake(4360m/14,257ft), 4 hrs

After morning breakfast in Chandan Bari sing Gompa the trail slightly goes uphill to Gosaikunda via Lauribinayek. Along the trails past rhododendron and pine forest trees and vista of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and Manaslu range, Hiunchuli and Tibetan peak is high lights of the adventure, you trek towards Gosaikunda (4,361m) and overnight here.

Day 5 Explore around Gosaikunda. Trek descend to Sing Gompa (3250m/10,628ft), 8 hrs

After morning quick trips around Gosaikunda lakes, you might walk further up to Suryakunda hill station where you pass 3 other suryakunda, Bardh kunda and Saraswati kunda and some other kunda lakes, you will have the great view. However, they are on the optional pan but you will have also a great time exploring around Gosaikunda lakes around. Around Mid day, walk downhill trek to Sing Gompa via Lauribinayek hill station. Along the trail past rhododendron and pine forest trees and vista of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and Manaslu range, Hiunchuli and Tibetan peak and overnight here.

Day 6 Return to Kathmandu city.

After breakfast, you can take a bus or private jeep (paying on extra cost) back to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel.

Day 7 Departure day or request to extend your holidays.

After breakfast, we drop you to the international airport for your return flight however if you have some days time, you might request us to extend your holidays.

Equipment checklist

The following listed equipment is suggested and essential for Tea house trekking and camping trekking in the Nepal Himalaya. Make sure that below list as a guideline proposal. Some of the Trekking equipment can be hired or bought in the many adventure shops in Kathmandu.
The following basic equipment check lists should help you with your packing. Please remember that you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. At the start of the trek your packed trek bag should weigh not more than 33 pounds or 15 kg.


  • Sun hat or scarf
  • Light balaclava or warm fleece hat

Upper Body:
